Salmonella Prevention
MOPAC has instituted a rigorous Salmonella Reduction Program to continuously test for Salmonella
at all plants. If a sample tests positive, the area of contamination is isolated and disinfected.
We participate in the Animal Protein Producers Industry (APPI) Salmonella Reduction Program, which
was initiated by the National Renderers Association. This program aims to reduce the incidence of
Salmonella in the industry. This is done in part by providing educational programs on this ubiquitous
organism and initiating cooperative research activities between the Agricultural Research Service
and APPI.
